This chest/shadow box combo is a flat top chest. The shadow box is a full 18x24, so the box is fairly large. It has a teak oil finish.
The idea for this trunk came from the retiree who bought it. He wanted to see the shadow box from the front of the box. It features a shadow box that slides into the front of the box from the top, a lift out tray, a Teak inlay at the lid seam, and an Aromatic Cedar bottom. The shadow box is separated from the rest of the trunk with a "wall" to keep contents of the trunk separated from the back of the shadow box or from falling out when the shadow box is removed. The glass is UV filtering, laminated, and 1/4" thick. The glass is framed by 1.25" thick oak to help hold the box square since the glass does not add to the structural support that a normal all wood box would have.
The Mahogany on the top was obtained by the retiree from the White House while he was there on official Navy business. It is about 1/2" thick and is inlayed into the top of the trunk.
This piece is made of Black Walnut on the outside and items on the inside were made from Iroco, a teak substitute.
This item is a Red Oak treasure chest with a shadow box that sets into the box. It is finished with a Red Oak colored stain and has multiple coats of Polycrylic finish to give it a rich, deep glow. The heavy duty leather handles will allow the box to be filled up with anything and will still allow for comfortable portability. The lid of the box features a "picture frame" that has a 1/8 inch gap between the back board and the glass, allowing for more room for plaques, coins, or anything else that might normally be displayed in the shadow box.
This item features a piano hinge, brass lid lift, comfortable leather handles, round top, picture frame in the lid, and a shadow box that can be lifted out of the box.
