I hung the crown molding in our Virginia house and here in our Washington house.  I use a cant board behind the molding to have a secure nailing surface.  The cant board has a 45 deg face that is about 1/4 inch behind the molding allowing me to put the molding seems wherever I want without fear of not having a solid nailing surface.

The curtain hanging hardware is black walnut, trimmed to match the entertainment center.
